McCormick Student Village Residence Halls
an integral part of the IIT experience

Going away to a university is much more than attending class and preparing for your professional future. It's an opportunity to meet new people, to exercise leadership and to grow.
Welcome to IIT's McCormick Student Village - six interconnected residence halls that provide that opportunity. Each serves as a social center and study hall. Living on campus exposes you to people from across the United States and from dozens of foreign countries. Friendships are formed here that last a lifetime.
IIT is strongly committed to the educational value of on-campus living. Because of this commitment, all freshmen not residing with their families are required to live in IIT campus housing.

A friendly environment

IIT's residence halls provide casual spaces for students to relax, talk, play music, watch cable TV or just hang out. These lounges with carpet and comfortable furniture are just the place to unwind from a full day of classes and extracurricular activities.
Each hall organizes its own activities. Residents on each floor typically set their own study hours and quiet times, and agree on other guidelines for conduct. Leaders from each hall belong to the Residence Hall Association (RHA), which helps organize intramural sports, concert outings, coffee houses, film screenings, and other social activities.

Nourishing choices

The airy, light-filled residence hall dining area is a great place to get up to three square meals a day, while sharing a few laughs with fellow residents. Students have several prepurchased meal options, good for the residence halls and other places. Additional meals are available at the student union or at the late night snack shop in the residence halls.
Eat light at the salad bar, or satisfy a hearty appetite with one of several freshly prepared hot entrees. Special festive meals are offered periodically, featuring ethnic delicacies and holiday treats. One thing you should know about your food choices: You cannot cook in your room.

Extending the campus

Your residence hall is a short walk away from anywhere on campus - classrooms, library, computer and science labs, and recreational opportunities. But a bigger campus lies at IIT's doorstep - Chicago! Downtown is only minutes away by car, public transportation, or IIT's free shuttle bus service.
Chicago is a world-class city for architecture, business and technology. Part-time and co-op employment is available in the headquarters of many international companies. You are likely to visit some of them as part of planned educational experiences.
For culture, enjoy such renowned institutions as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Art Institute, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Museum of Science and Industry, to name but a few. In addition, Chicago is a dynamic theater and movie town.
Sports fans can walk to nearby Comiskey Park (White Sox baseball), or take a bus or train to see the Chicago Bears (football), Chicago Cubs (baseball), Chicago Bulls (basketball) or Chicago Fire (soccer), among many other sports events.

Making it home

The typical IIT residence hall room is approximately 11 feet by 16 feet.
But there is nothing typical about how IIT students make this space their own. You can personalize your space with posters, stereo and TV, plants and other decorative touches.
Student may choose single or double rooms, but preference is given to upperclassmen, who usually snap up the number of available single rooms. Each room comes completely furnished, except for linen. All rooms are carpeted and most rooms are air-conditioned. Rooms are equipped with phone jacks, so that students can plug in their own phone and make free on-campus calls. Off-campus calls are made possible through our secure AT&T ACUS System. Your rooms is also wired for the campus-wide ethernet and for the World Wide Web, as well as for satellite TV. Laundry facilities and study lounges, as well as a state-of-the-art computer lab are located in the basements of the complex and parking is just across the street.
